World Book Day at Horn Park - Thursday 5th March 2026

With World Book Day fast approaching, we would like to share the exciting plans we have with you that the children will be taking part in to celebrate our love of reading at Horn Park.
Author Visit
We are very lucky to have the wonderful author Stephen Davies at school on Thursday 5th March. Stephen has written many fantastic books. The children are familiar with his book ‘The Ancient Egypt Sleepover’! As part of his visit, he will be saying hello to children at our whole school assembly as well as working with classes throughout the day.
Stephen will also be selling his books after school on Thursday 5th March – please see the document below for information on the titles available along with prices. Payment can be made in cash on the day directly to Stephen.
Character Dress Up
Our annual, dressing up as a book character for World Book Day, will be on Thursday 5th March. We are very excited to see all the wonderful costumes children create. If children have the book at home, it would also be great for them to bring it in to share with the class. Please remember that dressing up can be simple and fun – do look at the character costumes in the document below to inspire you.
Book Tokens
This year, World Book Day £1 Book Tokens are digital - please see this digital token below. These tokens can be redeemed at participating bookshops (including Asda, Tesco, The Works, Sainsbury's, Waterstones and TG Jones) for free from now until Sunday 15th March 2026 (subject to availability). Check out all the titles available here: https://www.worldbookday.com/books-and-tokens/books/
World Book Day is the perfect time to continue to promote reading for pleasure, and we have a number of other activities taking place that week.
Parent/Carer Stay and Reads at 9am - 9.15am
We are welcoming parents/carers into school for a stay and read session with their child in the classroom. They will be held on the following days at 9am - 9.15am:
Monday 2nd March – Reception
Tuesday 3rd March – Year 1 and 2
Wednesday 4th March – Year 5 and 6
Thursday 5th March – Year 3 and 4
Read-a-thon
On Thursday 5th March from 2:15pm – 3pm, as part of World Book Day, we are inviting parents/carers to our whole school read-a-thon. This exciting event will consist of teachers reading on loop while children and parents/carers visit a range of classrooms and hear a range of wonderful stories.
Themed Lunch
On Thursday 5th March we also have a special World Book Day meal from Chartwells. Please complete this form by 9am on Friday 27th February if you would like your child to have a school lunch on this day. If your child usually has a school meal on a Thursday, you do not need to complete this form as they will receive this meal automatically.
Book Fair
Finally, on Thursday 5th March we will be holding a pre-loved book fair after school in the hall hosted by our PTA. If you have any pre-loved books you would like to donate, please bring these to school with your child to hand to the school office or the class teacher. All money raised will go towards purchasing new books for the school library as well as some lovely story sacks which allow children opportunities to actively engage in the story with the use of props.
