Maths

We work with the NCETM’s Maths Hubs to implement a mastery approach to maths teaching. Mastering maths means that pupils acquire a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of the key concepts. Across the school, we follow a coherent curriculum which ensure skills are sequenced logically and practiced routinely to develop deep and lasting understanding. Additional 'Mastering Number' session for students in Years 1-5 provide further opportunity to practise taught skills. Our pupils’ understanding  allows them to reason and problem solve mathematically. Isolated problem solving sessions allow children to explore and apply different methods of mathematical thinking to stand-alone problems. Deeper thinking gained through the mastery approach prepares children to move on to more advanced mathematical concepts in secondary school and beyond.
